All Natural Sunburn Relief: After Sun Spray
As I get older, I become one big freckle in the summer, but honestly, I don’t burn as much as I used to. However every once in awhile I do burn pretty bad. Usually, at the beginning on the summer. But then, there’s my red-headed, fair skinned daughter, Izzie. She burns. Super easy. Even with constant re-application of SPF 50. Now we have found our new favorite all natural, sunburn relief remedy – DIY After Sun Spray with Essential Oils!
It wasn’t my idea to start with. Last month, Young Living’s monthly promotion was a free LavaDerm Cooling Mist with purchase. It came just in time for my first sunburn of the year and was AMAZING. Now, I love free product, but I wanted to give some away and use it like crazy on my kids. So I made up my own recipe and love it just as much! My sunburn (and Izzie’s) went away so quickly and didn’t peel!
- 2 oz 100% Aloe Vera Liquid
- 10 drops Young Living Lavender Essential Oil
- 2 drops Young Living Spikenard Essential Oil (optional)
- Fill 2 oz spray bottle almost to the top wit Aloe Vera liquid. If using 100% Aloe Vera gel, use half water, half aloe. Drop into the bottle 10 drops of Lavender Essential Oil and 2 drops Spikenard. Replace spray top and shake well.
- Apply frequently, up to every 15 minutes, when first burned.
- Shake well before each use.
What I also love about this recipe is that it rocks for cuts and scrapes!! Aloe is moisturizing and Lavender is anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, and anti-bacterial. Pretty much amazing. So I just spray it right on my kids boo boos and they keep on running. I don’t have to fight them about it because it doesn’t hurt or sting. Lots of times, they like to spray it on their own cuts, burins, sunburns and abrasions. WIN!
There are so many amazing benefits of Lavender, Spikenard, and 100% Aloe Vera. I found this article about the many benefits of Aloe and feel even more justified in my love of my 100% aloe vera liquid that I bought in bulk. Spikenard will be on my next Young Living order, but, like Lavender, it has anti-inflammatory benefits, and sunburn is all inflammation.
