DIY Round Up: DIY Laundry Detergent Edition
Happy Saturday! As you read this, we’re up and at ‘em getting started on our basement insulation project. Here’s some weekend reading to get you started while we’re busy.
TipNut headlines this round up with 10 ways to make your own laundry detergent. It’s an interesting project for sure. We haven’t gone that DIY yet – but Josh over at Bungalow 23 has. (Hat tip to Josh for this great reference).
We found this neat Color Personality Test at Pratt & Lambert. I’m apparently “Sun-Kissed”, which means my “colors have all the elements of energy, friendliness and ease. They create a warm and cozy environment. The person who chooses this palette is generous and wants their home to be welcoming and friendly. Comfortable and casual furnishing reflect their desire to entertain and spend more time at home with their family and friends.”
Yep, you read that right. I’m generous
Take a look and tell me what your color personality is.
Charles and Hudson interviews Susan Sera at The Kitchen Designer on ways to make a kitchen more functional for the elderly. Susan provides guidance based on universal design parameters that makes the space usable for people of all ages… certainly something we’ll keep in mind in our upcoming kitchen makeover.
Home Construction Improvement gives us a detailed review of the Rockwell Jawhorse – definitely a very cool tool that can provide a second set of hands for many jobs. It’s on my Christmas list for this year. Todd also tells us where to find the best price on the Rockwell Jawhorse (hint: it’s also a great place to get books).
Finally, Calfinder maintains a pretty cool window replacement resource, which can help you find a contractor to help out with replacement windows, and also provides dozens of window pictures if you’re designing windows into a new home. We like the pictures, but haven’t personally used Calfinder’s contractor-finding service yet – something we’re keeping in mind for projects we can’t tackle on our own.

I took the test and I’m a Mosaic: The mosaic palette consists of plush, rich hues that combine with strong furnishings and accents for an intriguing and comfortable environment. Saturated jewel tones and earth tones are for people who crave a home that reflects their travels and their adventurous and romantic nature. They desire an environment with collections that are reminiscent of other times and cultures.
That sounds pretty accurate. Very interesting. Thanks for all the other great info. I had no idea so many people (or anybody) wanted to make their own laundry soap.

I was thinking there should be a design app that allows you to pick among different rooms over and over to hone in on your decorating style and recommend furniture and materials. This little app starts in that direction but only does it on the paint side.
