Fall Decor on a Budget: Ways to Add Spice to your Home

Fall is my favorite season. The colors, the temperature, the food – EVERYTHING about fall makes me happy! Probably earlier than is dictated by etiquette, I start to spice up my home with hints of Fall. But, with the troublesome economy, I can’t bring myself to spend too much money on luxury items.

So, here are a few cheap ways to spice things up:

Door Decor

Since the front door is the first to greet me, a seasonal wreath always puts a smile on my face. This year, I treated myself to a new wreath from Target (under $25).  Making a wreath out of leaves (as they start to change color and fall) or pine cones is also a fun way to put a personal touch to your door. It is also a great activity to get kids outside and give them ownership over the home decor.

Flowers

Mums the word! I just bought several 8″ mums from our local Home Depot, now on sale, two for $8!  Don’t be tempted by those blooming mums, search for ones that are just budding – they will last longer in your garden. I also love buying seasonal bouquets (when on sale) as a quick and cheerful centerpiece for our dining room table.

Pumpkins and Gourds

Pumpkins are the best multi-purpose Fall item! You can put pumpkins in your garden to add color, carve them with your kids, put them inside to bring a festive feel, roast the seeds for a healthy snack, use the meat for pies and treats, and much more. The smaller pumpkins and gourds are a great addition to any garden, but can be displayed more prominently inside. I enjoy putting them in a bowl as a centerpiece in our kitchen. You can also cut off the top, scoop out the inside, and use the pumpkin/gourd as a mini flower vase.

Pine Cones

In addition to door wreaths, pine cones can also be used as a quick and easy centerpiece or hallway accent.

Candles

Fall scents, especially Pumpkin Spice and Cider, are my favorite scents of the year. Candles can provide a warm, cozy feel to any room and evoke emotions of comfort and happiness. Don’t feel like you have to spend a fortune on those expensive brands that burn away so fast, Target and Walmart also sell great candles that won’t break your budget.

What do you think? What other ways do you decorate for Fall on a budget?
