Irwin VISE-GRIP Contest

From now through Oct. 31, 2008, consumers are invited to share the different and unique ways they have used VISE-GRIP locking pliers or wrenches to solve problems either in the workplace or at home.

All you have to do is sign-up at the Irwin Site and share a brief story. You’ll be entered in a contest with prizes ranging from wrench and pliers sets to the grand prize of an IRWIN VISE-GRIP custom-branded chopper built by East Coast Custom Cycles (valued at $25,000)!

Of course I entered the contest but I read some of the other entries as well. Here are a few gems I found:

  • “Got sick of waiting for husband to fix leaky sink and did it myself”
  • “I don’t know my tools. I use the Honey dew approach to tool working jobs.”
  • “Working outside one day my Bluejeans had its top button pop off. Not having another pair to put on at the time I just used a pair of vise-grips to keep the jeans “buttoned” until I got to a point I could stop and get another pair of jeans. The grips were heavy but they worked great. What more could you ask of a tool?”

Sign up at the Irwin site and check out the entries for yourself.

What do you think? Will you enter?

  1. I don’t know if I’ll get around to entering… but I though I would share MY good use here… prying EACH and EVERY masonry nail holding the siding on our house by hand using the careful twist out method. AAACK! It’ll be a while before I can look at my vise grips again.

  2. I think the question is too broad…I mean, what CAN’T you use vice-grips for? They are my favorite non-power tool of all time.

    Seriously, I think we’ve used them on every project. I’ll have to scour the blog for particularly good instances.

  3. Haha! I just realized I spelled that vice and not vise. I made those pliers sound very dangerous, indeed!

  4. @Jennifer, Sounds horriby tedious. But way to use the vise grips.

    @Amalie, very dangerous pliers.

    Don’t forget to leave comments on the other Irwin post to enter our contest.
