John Bridge Ceramic Tile Advice Forum

Neither Kim nor I are big fans of carpet. For many reasons, we much prefer harder, more rugged surfaces, particularly hardwood and ceramic / stone tile.

We’re planning to lay radiant-heated ceramic / stone tile in the basement, and have already run into a myriad of questions — most related to the underlayment and subfloor preparation.

The most helpful resource I’ve found on the web so far is the John Bridge Ceramic Tile Advice Forum. So far, I’ve reviewed my tile plan with several experts and weekend warriors on the site, and have received many good comments. Each project on the site gets its own thread. My thread is here, if you’d like to see the discussion so far.

    Question:

I am installing beveled marble subway tile in the kitchen and have used 1/16 spacers. What technique or miracle do I use in order to maintain an even grout line while exposing the bevel? I used 1/16 spacer because I wanted a very thin grout line?

    Hi Anonymous,

I definitely recommend you follow the link to the JOhn Bridge advice forums and post your question there.

But, I’ll take a stab at it as well. I doubt you’ll have any problem getting the bevel to show through. After you put on the grout, you’ll be wiping it dry… How far it comes out of the grout lines will really depend on how much you “dig in” to those lines.
