I'll second the hercules hooks... we've used them for most of our pictures. They work great! Tiny little hole, too.

I've had OK luck with the expansion type anchors...

I didn't know about the threaded ones. Never had much luck with expansion anchors, so I will be sure to try these next time, and will also investigate the Hercules hooks recommended by Jon

Jon,

I completely agree. Expansion anchors are really frustrating. Too bad every manufacturer distributes them. I've never tried the "Hercules Hook". Thanks for the tip

I've never (EVER!) had success with the expansion anchors. They only serve to tick me off.

Believe it or not, but I've had a lot of success with "Hercules Hooks." I saw them on a silly infomercial and later picked them up at a "As Seen On TV" store. They worked real well and were easy enough for my Beloved Bride to setup herself.

I've always used the plastic kind that you use with screws. I've never tried the self-tapping kind you describe here. I guess one downside would be if you ever move what you've hung, the threaded anchor's hole would be bigger to patch.
