Our First Blog Award: We Got an E!

ads>

About 3 months ago, we received our very first blogging award from Larry over at Simpson’s Folly.  Like all awards, this ”E” comes with some responsibilities, including passing it on to ten other blogs.  The fact that its taken us this long to respond is, well, a bit embarassing.  Anyhow, Ethan and I took some time to put together a list of SOME of the blogs we enjoy.  We wrote a little blurb about each of them below.  If your blog isn’t on the list, please don’t be offended.  There were SO many good ones, it was really hard to choose.  Now that’s you’ve received this award, you’ve got to pass it on!  (See the bottom).

Tiny Old House: Jennifer has got to be the most well known house blogger in the world.  She currently holds top honors here for the most comments–43 in total; more than double her closest follower.  I’ll bet more Americans recognize her house than know all 9 of the supreme court justices…  Jennifer & Hubby recently stripped off the old siding from their house, revealing beutiful brick.  Some pictures of their mason’s repairs can be seen on this recent post.

Simspon’s Folly: Larry has made me (Ethan) very envious of his great new woodshop. Combine that with random twisters and I’m hooked.

Homeowner’s Blog: We’ve said it before, but Paul has a great blog. He’s a wealth of knowledge. We especially like the posts about solar power.

Home Construction Improvement: Todd is one of the few general home improvement bloggers out on the net.  He and I (Fred) frequently trade e-mails about what topics people read about most.  Todd’s also a structural engineer and a certified P.E.  He’s the first one I’d talk to if I were going to do something to the structure of our house.  Todd’s just spinning up a new site too, Today’s Green Construction, focusing on energy efficient building and related topics.  I think it’ll be a hit.

A Constructed Life: We like this blog because Liz provides a fun perspective on the projects she and Joey tackle. They are working hard on some of the same projects I’ve been through.

Blueprint for Financial Prospertity:  Jim runs a fantastic blog on personal finance topics ranging from taxes, to frugal living, to mortgages, to credit cards (including a recent post on credit cards that give cashback for gas purchases that I found helpful).  Jim updates the site twice a day, so there’s always fresh content to comment on (and distract you from whatever you should be doing).

Oh Bungalow: Amalie writes an excellent 1922 Bungalow Restoration blog, and first introduced us to granite tile as a kitchen countertop option.  Amalie’s counter is looking great, and for a fraction of the cost of a granite slab, or even large granite tiles, you can’t beat it.

Stupid Scholar:  BJ is a long time friend of mine (Fred) currently attending school in Edinburgh, Scotland.  He and his wife were kind enough to have us over to their flat for a week, which gave us our first opportunity to see Europe.  BJ’s topic is about as far away from home improvement as you can get: theology and religion, but we still love him.  He also writes a second blog called Daily Bible Reflections.  Subcribe if you want to receive (mostly) daily bible readings and reflections by e-mail.

Not Before 7: While not a home improvement blog. we like it!  Mary writes about the challenges she faces while raising her kids. I (Ethan) especially like the Tiny Talk Tuesdays, where she shares funny things her kids say.

Beach House: This blog has lots more than just home improvement. We love the featured art, feeling like it really challenges our artistic sides.

Now that we’ve awarded you this ”E” the rules say you have to pass it along to 10 other bloggers.  We’ll give you a break… Give it away to at least 3 other blogs you LOVE to read, and let them know to keep it up!

Thank you guys, and “challenging” is one of the most common adjectives used to describe me, along with sarcastic, acerbic and snotty but I think you meant it in its positive sense and I appreciate that

Thanks guys! You know I love your blog and you made my job hard because you picked some of my favorites already! BTW, thanks for the plug on the new site. I just started it and it’s amazing how many people are searching for Green Construction information already!

Thanks! While your topic here is far from my mommy blogging land, I love coming by! Congrats on the award and I will try to do my duty to pass it on. I have passed this one on before, so I’ll have to think of three new ones…hmmmm….! Keep at it!

Thanks guys! I’ve enjoyed your blog, too! I’m just puttering away at my home… putter, putter, putter.
