Netflix Streaming to Wii

netflix-logoIf you haven’t heard, Netflix can now stream instantly to Wii consoles. As soon as it was official, I logged in and requested my disk. It arrived a few days ago and already, Jocie and I have watched a handful of movies. If you’re a member of Netflix, you can request your disk at that link.

Requirements to Stream Movies

Getting ready to stream movies is simple. Make sure your Wii console has an active connection to broadband internet. Insert the disk and follow the instructions-entering the code online.

Wii Interface

The Wii interface is also simple. You use the D-pad to move up and down through categories or left and right to move through titles. Neflix groups movies into basic categories like comedy, drama, action & adventure, and more. Your instant queue is also readily available. Within each category is a list of 100 movies. There’s no search interface so it’s easier just to load up your queue online.

The in-movie controls are equally simple. You can pause the movie, see how much time is left or jump ahead. If you do stop a movie, Netflix will allow you to start from where you left-off, even if you’ve turned off the console.

Movies load quickly and I haven’t experienced any problems so far- no skipping, interference or audio issues.

Video Quality

Picture quality is only as good as the smallest bottle-neck. Video source, TV capabilities and cabling all affect picture quality. I have a 1080p television and my Wii is connected with component cables. With that said, picture quality is only average. The Wii is not designed for high-end graphics- that’s apparent from the games available. It’s understandable that the video quality of streamed movies is only so-so.

Conclusions

Overall, I’m really pumped about streaming movies and TV shows through my Wii. The quality is only average but the convenience is excellent. If you’d like to try netflix free, follow the instructions at that link from Ryan over at Cash Money Life to get started.

What do you think? Do you use a console to stream movies?
