Rechargeable Batteries Save Money
Save money and “go green” by buying Rechargeable Batteries that can be used over and over. I started buying them when we realized just HOW MANY children’s toys require AA’s and AAA’s - and how frequently kids FORGET to turn toys off when they’re done playing with them.
But we use rechargeables for just about everything now - TV remotes, video game controllers, clocks, you name it. And while they cost about twice as much up-front, we’ve been using ours for two years now and haven’t had to throw away one. For our household, that’s saved us a couple hundred dollars (assuming we would’ve kept popping new batteries into toys…which, honestly, we could not have afforded to do, and the boys would’ve had to settle for non-working toys.)
And for the extra-thrifty (I count myself here in this respect), you can take the batteries out of something you won’t be using for a while and reuse them somewhere else. I rotate our kids’ toys, so they’re never all out at once (couldn’t stand the clutter…not to mention the racket). So when I’m putting a bin of toys out in the garage, I take out and recharge all the batteries and then use them for any “new” toys we’ve brought in. That way we don’t buy batteries for every single battery-operated item we own, and we use all our batteries regularly.
