Filtrete Air Purifier: Enjoying the Air You Breathe.

Well friends, here in Maryland, this has been the worst allergy season I can remember. Even inside with the windows closed (and on daily allergy meds), I still was suffering this year. A good friend of mine, Amy, had an air purifier that she used and it seemed to really make a difference with dust and cat dander. So I did some research and found the Filtrete Ultra Clean Air Purifier. It claims to increase air circulation by 30%, capture pollen at 41% higher rate, and is 99.9% effective at capturing mold spores, dust mites, dust and dander (all of which I am allergic to). The reviews I read online were all positive.

I began use of this air purifier after Ethan installed the wood floors, a time where the air quality was not so good in the house. The air purifier appears to live up to its claims. The air circulation has been good and no dust has collected/settled in the room! My allergies have improved over the past weeks (although that may in part due to the actual outdoor air quality).

I’ve heard complaints about the loudness of the fan in other air purifiers; however, I have found this one to be quiet and unobtrusive. The style of the purifier is nothing magical but it is plain enough to be put in a corner or behind a chair without being noticed.

Another complaint I have heard is about the cost and life of the filters. The filter will need to be replaced every few months, but you can lengthen the life of the filter by periodically vacuuming the filter. Another suggestion I saw online was to buy a mesh trim-to-fit air filter and place it outside the Filtrete filter. The mesh filter will catch larger particles first and lengthen the life of the filter. These mesh filters are cleanable and relatively cheap. Also, if you order the air purifier sometimes you can get discounted filters when you buy them upfront.
