SAM Container Sizes, Weight Capacities (PODS Information Too)

large stacked containersI just compared SAM and PODS moving and storage companies and one of the questions that always comes up is what container sizes are available for these units and how much can they hold.

SAM Container Sizes & Weight Capacity

According to SAM’s official web site, the only container size they currently offer is 8′x16′x8′ (thats 8 feet wide, by 16 feet long, by 8 feet tall, or approximately 128 sq. ft.). This container can hold up to 7500 lbs. When loaded with regular furniture and other items, it is unlikely you will exceed this capacity.

PODS Container Sizes

PODS’ web site indicates they offer three size containers: 7′x7′x8′ (49 sq. ft.), 8′x12′x8′ (96 sq. ft), and 8′x16′x8′ (128 sq. ft.)  PODS does not disclose on their web site the weight limit for each size.

A normal size 1500 sq ft. townhome move will likely require 2 full size containers.  Alternatively, you should consider using a moving truck, as the cost will likely be much cheaper for a local move.
