The Chain Mixer: A Viable Alternative to the Mixing Blade?

About 3 weeks ago, I ran across this interesting DIY video of a chain mixer  created by a guy named Bill.  (I know his name and web address because he contacted us via e-mail after I commented on the video).

We’ve mixed a lot (and I mean A LOT) of stuff for the basement project, including basement water proofer and self-leveling underlayment.  I wonder how this device would have faired compared to the standard mixing blade we used.  The innovation reminded me of something one of us around the DIY blog community would have come up with for our own home.

Apparently, Bill is selling these things at the web site I linked to above.  If his video compel’s you, he’s even left his phone number up there :-)

What do you think?  Does Bill’s invention get two thumbs up?

Wow, I own one of these already. I bought it for mixing thinset for a floor tile job, and it is AWESOME. To clean it I just stuck it in a milk jug full of water and gave it a few spins. I will never go back to a blade mixer!!!!!

This innovation of Bills, makes power mixing safer for the user, little or no damage to the container, and I love the advantage of fitting it through such a small opening and mixing in irregular shaped containers. Another great advantage is see is durability considering the simplicity of this tool. It makes a person wonder why wasn’t this thought of years ago—-by me.

I am surprised that a company specializing in liquid mixing
has not picked up on this product. The first time I viewed the video I immediately saw several possibilities flash before my eyes.Could you imagine a milkshake being sturred with a scaled down version of this product. I am impressed with the basic design as to what has been done here and could be revolutionary in how we mix liquids. Keep in mind
that I am a pessimist on new ideas. I cannot find any thing but good things to say about this one
