$5 Frame Redesign!

$5 Frame Redesign!

Since repainting our living room, the walls have remained bare. Mostly because I wasn’t sure what to do, but also because art and wall decor are sooooo expensive. But then, last week, I couldn’t sleep thinking about all my current projects, and it occurred to me that I might be able to use some of the old decor in a new way. What was there to lose? Otherwise, it would all go to GoodWill, so I might as well give it a shot. After all, repurposing and spicing up old stuff on the cheap kinda rocks!Spray Paint Talk Once I made...

Upcycled Goodwill Art
Jocie | February 26, 2013

Editor’s Note: I made this beautiful DIY Button Heart canvas for our bedroom from an up-cycled Goodwill Canvas for only a couple of dollars! This post originally ran early in 2012 but the art still hangs on our bedroom wall and is one my favorite pieces in our room. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do!Several months ago when I started our bedroom makeover, I went to our local Goodwill looking for decor items to repurpose and upcycle. I didn’t find much because most things were WAY over-priced, but I did find three canvases...

Craft Desk Progress

Craft Desk Progress

Just after Christmas, Ethan and I agreed that I needed to do something to better organize my craft supplies and create a better work space for the constant stream of crafts. At that time, my “work space” consisted of a card table and pile of junk in the back of our basement. It was kinda embarrassing. Don’t judge me…We did a lot of research in what type of desk would be best in the space. Sadly, there isn’t a whole lot out there that its at all reasonable in price. Martha Stewart has a pretty decent line,...

Pallets 101

Pallets 101

Just call me Professor Jocie because you are about to get schooled in deconstructing wood pallets and making pallet signs. LOL! Okay, maybe not “schooled”… in response to some reader requests, I wanted to share with you my tips and tricks for pallet signs. The truth is, I spent MANY frustrating hours trying to deconstruct wood pallets and ended up damaging the wood despite all that effort! So, I turned to Ethan (my master of the tools) for some help. He suggested using a few power tools that would make it much easier,...

My Posh Little Girls: Pearl and Ribbon Necklaces

My Posh Little Girls: Pearl and Ribbon Necklaces

I LOVE having two girls, mainly because I love hair, makeup, nails, clothes…and of course, jewelry. My girls are almost 2 and 4, so everything is scaled down to Target, Old Navy, and dollar section jewelry (I don’t think its worth it to buy expensive stuff and have it ruined, broken, lost, etc). Over the past 4 years, I have made TONS of hair bows, headbands, flower embellishments, and finally and most recently, I undertook making jewelry for them. *Make sure and keep reading to find out how to get a Jocie Original for FREE!*I...

DIY Christmas Trees Under $5

Merry Christmas Eve!!! I am soooo excited for tomorrow! As I sit here and type, I’m listening to Christmas music cozied up in a warm sweater and blanket. Adding to the excitement, cold air has moved into Baltimore region and I’m really hoping for a WHITE CHRISTMAS!! …even if it’s just a dusting. I realize I may have formed a Christmas Tree addiction at this point. But in my defense, I made more trees because Kim said she could use some Christmas decor for her new mantel. haha Although now that I have made them,...

Making a Framed Glitter Reindeer

Making a Framed Glitter Reindeer

Reindeer are all the rage this Christmas, have you noticed? While I love me a reindeer, I didn’t really want to spend the money on a reindeer bust for the wall (is that even the right terminology) and, while the reindeer pillows are super cute, that a little more time-consuming than I wanted. When I saw this cute, unfinished wood reindeer head of Micheal’s a plan started to develop. It was regularly $2.99 but I think it was 50%. Add in the cost of glitter and leftover burlap from a previous project, and on old reject frame...

How to Make a Felt Advent Calendar

How to Make a Felt Advent Calendar

Last year I made a paper advent calendar. It was really a special time for our family that we used to move the focus of Christmas away from presents on onto Jesus, family, and togetherness. Each day we would read the Christmas story and act it out using the plastic Nativity set from my mom. Then, we would read that day’s activity from the calendar. Izzie LOVED it. Seriously, about once a month since last Christmas she asks when it will be #6 with hot chocolate!  lol! I guess that was her favorite advent activity. While the...

What? Its Not a Video Game?

What? Its Not a Video Game?

If you’re a fan of our “other half” OPC, hopefully you saw Ethan’s amazing woodworking project – a cribbage board. We and I both love games! Usually, we play a lot of cards, like Hand and Foot, but we also really enjoy two player games that we can play in the evening after the girls go to bed. We’ve played Yahtzee, To Court the King, Epidemic, and at the holidays we often play Carroms with a wooden board my grandfather made. Ethan also plays video games, but I am all about people and the real life games! Recently,...
