I love me some Niecy Nash! And let me just say, she would not be pleased with my lack of organization and my shameful clutter. Okay, maybe it’s not horrible, but definitely NOT pretty! As Izzie and Lucy have gotten older, our collection of crayons, markers, glue, paint, coloring books, and preschool workbooks has out grown our ability to store it. So, I was forced to lock it up and make a change! Seriously, don’t judge me…I was using a beautiful ceramic planter to hold crayons and markers. (Probably because I can’t...
For those of your following along with my very slow kitchen re-design, not long ago I completed my first sewing project – a kitchen valence. Up close, I loved the fabric, and the valence itself was sewn perfectly (yeah, I’m awesome!). However, once I hung it up, I was not thrilled. the pattern was too small and the color scheme was not what I had envisioned. My mom was very understanding, given she had spent several hours helping me learn to sew. She (and my grandmother agreed) that it was worth the time spent in hopes that...

My grandmother, Gran took us Jamaica last week for 7 days of sun, great company, a few drinks and NO KIDS! Kim and Fred were kind enough to take the girls for the week and I think Izzie and Lucy had as much fun as we did!We stayed at Sandals Royal Caribbean, an all-inclusive resort that caters to couples, or in my grandmother’s case, and 88-year-old woman and her niece, Bess Leigh. Here’s me with Gran, looking GOOD!We had a fabulous time at our semi-private beach and pool – no, that doesn’t mean you get to...

We are back from Jamaica and had an amazing time!! We had more sun and beach time than we expected with Hurricane Ernesto scheduled to hit Jamaica while we were there. I came home with an amazing tan, too! Later this week, I’ll share some pix and stories, so stay tuned. Well, Ethan has finally broken down and given me what I always wanted…a nice rack. A nice SPICE rack, that is! LOL!A few weeks ago, I posted about my ongoing kitchen renovations. One of our faithful readers, JustMe, commented: Have you thought about building...
Today is EXTRA special because not only am I still in Jamaica but it is also my birthday!! In some ways it will be my bestest birthday yet because, let’s face it, what could be better than being on the beach with a drink and no kids? In other ways, it seems like many past birthdays. Growing up, we were often at the beach during the week of my birthday with my family and grandparents. That same grandmother is the one who is taking us to Jamaica! Sadly, my twin brother, Scott was unable to come with us to Jamaica. But a BIG SHOUT...
Ethan and I are still in Jamaica probably drinking some Rum Punch sitting by the pool as the sun sets over the water. Island music is playing in the distance as we chat and maybe even play some cards. Hopefully, I haven’t burned to a crisp and am pleasantly tan instead. Either way, I am not home and blogging. In my absence, Brianna from The Modern Parsonage was kind enough to share her wainscoting/board and batten, experience with us! I’m a little jealous because this has been on my “I really want it” list for a...

Some of our closest friends recently hosted a birthday party for their daughter, who was turning one. When I asked what she needed, the mom said that she didn’t really need anything but could always use a little extra decor in the nursery. Their daughter has a beautiful and chic nursery decorated with dark woods and elegant touches of brown and pink. As I racked my brain on what to make, I decided to use the same concept I have used before in making decorative owls and an elephant door stop. I didn’t have much time to make...
For years my sister, Erin has hated her cabinets. They are old, ugly, and really nasty – covered in years of funk but also had some extra vanishes and waxes to give them extra shine. In all, it wasn’t a pretty picture. The only thing her cabinets had going was that they are solid wood. She’s lived in the house for now 14 years but updating the cabinets is an expensive and time-consuming venture. With four kids, three dogs, one husband, and a partridge in pear tree, the cabinets have not been a top priority.About...

While searching on Pinterest for some inspiration for my kitchen re-design, I saw this chevron tile backsplash from Hooked on Houses. It was actually from Kelsey Grammar’s kitchen. While I’m not a huge fan of Kelsey Grammar, I do love that backsplash. We currently have a standard 4″ granite backsplash, matching the countertop, so Ethan and I thought it might look weird to add tile backsplash above that. Plus, it would be a big financial investment for a unnecessary design element that will likely go out of style before...
Today’s guest post comes to us from our friend, Sarah at The Ugly Duckling House. Sarah was kind enough to share her very cool bathroom art with us since our family is camping this week. Well, I may end up at a hotel, but Ethan and the girls will definitely be camping! lol! I’ll let you know how we survived once we get home, but in the mean time, be sure to check our Facebook page for updates on our camping adventure! Thanks, Sarah for coming over the the Better Half! I love this fun and creative take on bathroom decor.Hi...
