Jocie | November 20, 2012

This post is brought to you by the letter A and the Number 2! (That’s actually what the party invitation said. How cute is that?)One of my good friend’s, Nicole threw a 2nd birthday party for her daughter, Addison. Addison loves Elmo and this was definitely one of the cutest parties ever! Nicole has great taste and throws a wonderful party. Here’s the birthday girl – a beautiful little red-head and a beautiful picture taken by Nicole.Addison is a few months older than our youngest daughter, Lucy and both are...

How to Make No-Sew Fabric Tutus

How to Make No-Sew Fabric Tutus

Awhile ago, my crafty (and photographer) friend, Ruth showed me a fabric tutu she made for her daughter, and OMG was it cute! It was made the same way I made Lucy’s birthday tutu last year but made of fabric scraps instead of tulle. It was so simple and easy. Not as cheap as a tulle tutu but I could have made it for cheaper if I had shopped the clearance isles instead of just picking my favs. I made three skirts, one for Lucy, one for Izzie, and one for Izzie’s BFF for about $40 – about $13 each. These would make wonderful...

Children’s Handprint Art Based on Micah 6:8

I m so excited to share with you my children’s canvas and decor based on Micah 6:8! Over the past week, I worked hard to spruce up and make the space more casual and kid oriented. Izzie (my three-year old) and I made two canvases to put in the dining room, above her small, wooden table. I had thought I would stop there, but once I hung them it seemed too small on the wall.So I went through my pins, looking for ideas of what to do on the third canvas. I found really precious idea, based on Micah 6:8 – “And what does...

How to Paint a Canvas Using Painter’s Tape and an X-Acto Blade

After organizing our kid crafts and learning materials last week, I went on a mission to decorate and craft with the kids. We had a blast, and now Izzie is a straight-up craft addict now. On friday, we did three crafts plus preschool work and she was begging for more. Who could blame her, though? Crafting rocks! With all the decorating and crafting I did with Izzie last week, the next week or two will be dedicated to kid-friendly crafts you can do with your kids. Feel free to write in with your own ideas or additions – we love...

How to Make Fabric Headbands with Fabric Flowers
Jocie | July 17, 2012

Awhile ago I became obsessed with making fabric flowers, and I had to figure out what to do with all of them. It wasn’t a big stretch to start making headbands and barrettes for Izzie and Lucy. Headbands were especially great for Lucy, since she still doesn’t have much hair at 18 months. Once I got into it, I couldn’t believe just how easy it really is to make headbands. I have made a ton for my girls, and they also make great ad-on gifts when I buy cute little Gap outfits for Izzie and Lucy’s friends.I have made...

An Owl-some Nursery

A while ago, I made three owls for my good friend, Colleen, to celebrate the birth of her daughter. Well, her sweet baby is now here and living in her adorable, owl-tastic nursery that Colleen created. Colleen was kind enough to let me take you all on a tour, partially because it’s so fabulous but also because she provided me with some inspiration for my upcoming kitchen redesign. I’ll fill you in at the end of the post and see if you can guess along the way!Colleen re-used her baby furniture from her first daughter (Izzie’s...

“Why Do Fools Fall in Love”…with Vintage Red Chairs!

“Good Golly Miss Molly,” these are fabulous chairs, and the best part was they only cost me $4 each! Last week, when I was outside playing with the girls, I saw that my neighbor had a bunch of stuff out at her curb for a charity pick up. So, my friend Jeanine and I walked down and I asked my neighbor if I could have her 3 small, kids chairs. Two of the them are vintage metal chairs with vinyl seats. These were rusted and the vinyl on one was torn. The third was a very worn and dirty wooden chair with lots of potential with...

DIY Elephant Doorstop

DIY Elephant Doorstop

We have been very fortunate to have the BEST next door neighbors (which is extra important when you share a wall in a townhouse community)! Our neighbors, Justin and Jeanine, have always been very thoughtful – sharing toys, hanging out with the kids, and even shoveling our sidewalk when we cam home from the hospital with Lucy. They have a daughter Izzie’s age and they had a second daughter last week. So, I really wanted to make something special to celebrate thier new baby since they have been so good to us. When I wrote...

How to Make Homemade Barrettes

This is a post that ran originally almost exactly two years ago on One Project Closer, our main site. Since then, I have made a couple of additional types of barrettes and added their tutorials (complete with LOTS of pictures) to the original post. So even if you saw the original post, read ahead to see what new stuff I have been up to! A friend of my daughter’s always has the cutest barrettes in her hair. One day, I complimented them to her mother, Colleen, who said they were home-made. Since I enjoy crafts, I thought it would...

Making Wooden Owls – It’s a HOOT!

Making Wooden Owls – It’s a HOOT!

I saw these beautiful wooden owls on Etsy and loved them, but they were so expensive – $80! So when one of my best friends was having her baby shower, I decided I would try to make them myself (with Ethan’s help). This ended up being a MUCH simpler project than I expected and it turned out to be one of my favorites too. One thing I loved about this project was that I used supplies I already had on hand – even the wood was a scrap from an earlier project. The owls were a big hit at the shower and my friend, Colleen loved...
