It’s April and that means I get to spend a day with some of my favorite people – that’s you!! – and share a recipe here at OPC The Better Half! While it may feel like Spring in Florida, I know that it is still pretty cold in most of the country. With that in mind, I thought something warm and toasty (and...

DIY Chapstick with Essential Oils!
Jocie | March 18, 2014
DIY Chapstick with Essential Oils!

In my house, we go through a lot of Chapstick. I mean, a lot. I’d like to blame it on the kids and their over-extending of the Chapstick into the cap, but I am just as guilty of accidentally putting them through the wash and dryer. Not to mention, I’d often end up grabbing one of Izzie’s HelloKitty cheapo chapsticks out of desperation, which just made my lips feel even more chapped. Argh. The sheer volume and expense for quality Chapstick seemed a bit ridiculous! So, I made my own DIY Chapstick and it was so so easy,...

Leprechaun Bark: A St Patrick’s Day Dessert!

I’m baaaaaack! It’s Keri from Shaken Together! I sure hope you don’t mind me crashing at Jocie’s place once a month. At least I bring dessert, right?! When I was brain storming for this month’s contributor post, I did a little research. I mean it is March after all. ‘Tis the month for soda bread and mutton, corned beef and cabbage, a pint of Guinness and a tea cake. I contemplated a recipe using gorgeous sharp Irish cheddar cheese and debated about making colcannon, a hearty potato and kale dish. But,...

{Healthier} Strawberries and Cream Muffins

Strawberries and Cream Muffins have been a recent breakfast food in our house and are the perfect summer treat! I saw a recipe from Ann at On Sutton Place for Strawberry Coffee Cake and it looked so yummy. I’ve tried many recipes from Ann and all of them are always amazing. So, I decided to try my own twist on the Strawberry Coffee Cake, making muffins instead and changing up some of the ingredients to make it a little healthier. I’m not against junk food, but I make muffins a couple of times a month for breakfasts and don’t...

Mom’s Famous Graham Cracker Treats

Ever since we were little, one of the most desired desserts in our family has been my mom’s graham cracker treats. Yes, that is their official name! It’s probably the easiest thing my mom makes, but it is considered a special treat when mom makes them. You also have to grab ‘em quick because they don’t last long. I made them this week for my friend, Colleen’s Holiday Treat party but these nuggets of awesomeness are good year-round! Graham Cracker TreatsMy mom actually suggested I share this recipe with...

Pumpkin Cinnamon Chip Cake with Cinnamon Glaze

I love pumpkin and I love dessert. A lot. This fall I have been concocting lots of different recipes and desserts using pumpkin. Some have been good and some have been not so good. This one falls into the amazing category.I made it for the first time a couple of weeks ago when we had some friends over to play cards, and it was a big hit! At the time, I posted on FB about it and many people asked that I share the recipe. Life got busy and I forgot about it. I made it again this past weekend for our family birthday get-together and everyone...

Healthy Chocolate Chip Zucchini Muffins
Jocie | July 10, 2012

I love, love, love zucchini bread and always crave after it when my sister makes up a batch. She is the ultimate baker and also has a large garden – she and my mom are the homemakers I aspire to be! This year I decided to make zucchini bread myself since Izzie and Lucy love muffins for breakfast and I thought zucchini bread must be healthier than other alternatives.Boy, was I wrong. I looked all over the web for a healthy recipe and was shocked to find that most called for a WHOLE CUP OF OIL! Am I completely naive or do I just...
