Your Take: Home Remodeling Apps for iPad
If you caught my Netflix post this morning, you know that I borrowed an iPad for a few hours. I wanted to see if it was really as cool as all the hype and there’s no better way than trying it out. I also wanted to see if there were any cool iPad apps for home improvement. Rather than wade through the App Store, I searched around online to see what people were saying.
Home 3D
The first app I encountered was Home 3D and the CalFinder review.
Home 3D allows you to recreate your home and try out a bold new paint color, re-arrange furniture, hang a picture or try out a new dining room table before you head to the DIY center. Plus, you can carry the exact dimensions with you.
While it looks cool, I wasn’t about to drop $6.99 for it. Anyone out there have this app?
Service Magic
The next app I tried out was Service Magic (link will attempt to open iTunes). This app isn’t specifically made for the iPad, so it doesn’t really take advantage of all the extra screen real estate. If you’re familiar with Service Magic, you know it’s designed to match up homeowners with contractors but the app does more. It provides pictures, articles and advice- great inspiration before tackling another job. Let me warn you though, the articles make it sound like the average homeowner is helpless without hiring a professional.
This app has a great price tag- free.
The Home Depot
I didn’t even realize that THD had gotten into the app market. The Home Depot app (link will attempt to open iTunes) lets you browse your local store and make shopping lists. It also has a cool “Know How” button that walks you through a few simple projects, like installing a ceiling fan, listing necessary tools and materials. Some of the projects also have a short video tutorial.
This is another free app but also more suited to the iPhone.
Your Take
So I’m curious, what’s your favorite iPad or iPhone app for home remodeling? Is there any out there worth using?!
