We have a lot of great information about sheds covering everything from building a foundation to characteristics of a high-quality shed. If you haven’t seen them, here’s a list of the articles:Building a post & beam foundation Pouring a concrete shed pad How to build a shed Building storage shelves in a shed 8 thing to look for when buying a shedOne aspect we haven’t covered is building a shed ramp so I was glad to help a friend build a ramp for his shed a couple of weeks ago. Last week I had the opportunity to help a friend build the foundation for a new shed that will be delivered in a couple of weeks. His back yard has a bit of a slope, and it would take too much concrete to pour a slab (read how to pour a concrete shed foundation here). For that reason, we decided that building a post and beam foundation would be the best way to go. This article is a step-by-step guide for how we built it, and if you’ve read our article for building a deck, you’ll see some similarities. Editors update: The shed...

There’s nothing like a hurricane to remind you that your beautiful shed isn’t actually attached to anything. With winds expected to reach 85mph, Fred and I decided it was in our best interest to better secure the shed. You may recall that we poured the concrete pad for the shed, and we even shared a quick video showing how the shed was delivered. The last step was to make sure the shed never moved again (unless of course we wanted it to). Imagine my local Home Depot the day before a class II hurricane arrived. It was chaos....

I promised in my shed delivery article that I’d be sharing a brief buying guide a week later. I didn’t make good on the timeline, but I didn’t forget the commitment. In order to produce a buying guide, we needed some additional pictures of a substandard shed to highlight the quality differences between sheds that are built “up to a standard” (like the one we purchased) vs. those that are built “down to a price.” We’ve also been well distracted by the workshop drywall project. Excuses...

It was murderously hot here in the Charm City suburbs last weekend. The heat index topped a full 115 degrees on Saturday! But fear not, the heat didn’t deter us from tackling our long-awaited shed storage shelves project. We’re excited about this project because we’ve been looking forward to sharing a plywood shelving article for some time now, and this article gives us the perfect avenue for that.In case you’ve forgotten (or more likely if you’ve just started reading here), here’s the new shed. It...

Pouring concrete is on the cusp of what many do-it-yourselfers will tackle, but with the right preparations and knowledge you can really build something worthwhile. It’s not an overly difficult project, especially when you enlist a handful of friends to help. This article covers site selection, digging concerns, tools, materials and techniques we used to pour an 8′ x 12′ slab for a new shed.Pouring a shed pad is a great solution for sheds that will be built or delivered onto relatively level ground. For installations...
