5 Minutes or Less: Making a Message Board with an Old Frame

October 11, 2012 | by Jocie (email) |

Before you read my easiest, almost most ridiculous post ever, just a reminder to visit our link party tomorrow, see some great featured projects and find out who won the $25 Hobby Lobby Gift Card!

Last year, I made a quick message board to put next to the door to write sweet notes between me and Ethan, or reminders, whatever. Usually, the same “love note” sits for a couple of months while visitors come in and write sassy additions like “gag me” or vomit sounds. Or sometimes, people like my sister write “I love you when you burp really loud.” No, they are not referring to Ethan. Classy, huh?

I got the idea from A Content Housewife and love it except my inner therapist doesn’t like the word because…I will love Ethan no matter what, so I changed the word to “when.”

Here’s the BEFORE!

With my recent and first purchase of burlap, I decided to do a quick update of the frame. It took 5 (maybe 10 minutes).

First, I removed the old scrapbook paper and cut out a square of burlap to go into the frame.

Then, I put the glass and burlap into the frame. (I know, I can’t believe I’m actually telling you this, even though it is soooo simple)

The burlap looks a little plan, so I made a few felt flowers and glued them to the frame. Seriously, took me 3 minutes. If you don’t know how to make ’em, check out my tutorial on making fabric flowers.

And I hung it back up on the wall! YAY!

There’s my super simple, almost ridiculous post about updating my dry-erase message board.

What do you think? What are your favorite super easy updates?

Adorable and super easy. I need these all over my house for reminders of God’s love for the 7 of us.

  3. Cute! I love the burlap behind the glass!

That looks really good! But it really helps that your handwriting looks great too.

Also, I love your love of burlap 😀

I agree on the handwriting. If Jocie didn’t tell us it’s a dry erase board I would have never known. It looks more like a piece of artwork

I have a mirror by the front door with Don’t Forget to Smile written on it, but it’s been there long enough that no one notices it now. LOL I think I’ll replace it with this project. I love the idea of burlap…Goes with anything.
