Crafting ADD…And a New Living Room!

October 23, 2012 | by Jocie (email) |

As you learned last week in my All About Jocie post , I am a licensed psychotherapist. So I have decided to diagnose myself (yes, that is frowned upon) as having “Crafting ADD.” I made that up, but I bet some of our readers have it too.

You may have Crafting ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) if you have 2 or more of the following symptoms:

  • Start new projects before finishing old ones
  • Work on lots of crafts at one time
  • Dream of new crafts to do even though your current list is already LONG
  • Pin constantly
  • Buy stuff at Hobby Lobby with no specific craft in mind
  • Own a craft/DIY blog

Okay, so some of these symptoms overlap with Crafting Dependence/Addiction but you get the idea. 🙂

My Crafting ADD has hit an all time-low…maybe not…but I’m still a little ridiculous. I have been working on the kitchen, and am mostly done. But I decided last Thursday to have a Girl’s Night and scheduled it for last night (Monday). So instead of just cleaning the house and showing off what I have already been working on, I decide to start my loving room redesign.

At first, I was just going to paint, but then it turned into getting new lamps and curtains.

In the last 3 days, we have done nothing but work on the living room. Even as I type, Ethan is cursing at  installing the curtain rods.

Here is the before…not horrible, but nothing too special. I decorated and painted 6 years ago when world market style and darker, warmer tones were popular. Now it seems very dark and outdated, although still cozy.

First we prepped the room, taking everything off the walls, scraping and sanding the walls, and spackling.

We moved everything to the center of the room and started priming.

Here’s my cute little assistant who enjoyed running circles around the stuff!

And Ethan priming under the cloak of night.

And now, the paint. I chose Behr’s Delicate Mist, a light blue with a gray undertone. It’s very pretty and fresh without looking too much like a baby blue. I would have gone with Benjamin Moore, but I didn’t want to drive further to get paint samples and the paint itself since we were so short on time. And yes, I’m that lazy.

Then we put stuff back up on the walls. Not everything will stay. I will slowly add/substitute decor, probably a lot home-made items. We also hung new curtains. Thank you for those who participated in my Facebook survey – we hung the curtains high, by popular demand! 🙂

I will also probably get a few more curtain panels since it looks a little sparse. I bought everything Target had, so I’ll have to wait until they get more in stock.

Here are the new end table lamps I got at Home Goods. I really love that they are small and fresh in color. Although Fred thought they looked too beachy. What do you think???

I also put pillows on the couch that I am in the process of making for my friend, Allison. I will hopefully be making my own pillows, not these exactly but probably something like it because I heart them.

Here’s the “complete” room…for now!

What do you think? Any suggestions for the decor in the room?

As Always, thanks for reading!

Very pretty! I am prejudiced since the color you chose is my color of choice lately: any light blue.
Our house is on the market and yet I am still itching to paint walls. I have to rein that in!

I love the updates! Beautiful color choice, and I hear you on the ADD and chronic craft supply buying!

Thanks so much Tanya! I just went to Hobby Lobby yesterday wanting to get one thing, and walked away with five other things but not the original one! hahaha

  5. I love the new paint color! So fresh and pretty and your little helper is soooo cute in her little outfit. Those cheeks are squeezable. Thank you for sharing and for the visit and sweet comment at The Dedicated House. Would love it if you would share this at my Make it Pretty Monday party at The Dedicated House. http://thededicatedhouse.blogspot.com/2012/10/make-it-pretty-monday-week-20.html And, yes, I have Crafting ADD. Hope to see you at the bash! Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse

I think I’m with Ethan on the lamps…haha. But I really like the curtains being hung high like that. It looks great, especially when they’re open on a sunny day 🙂

Great light an airy feel to it now. How did Ethan like using the shurline edger that I seen pictured on facebook?

    • Jocie says:

The edger was not great. It left little roller marks on the ceiling and got a good bit of paint on the ceiling too. So he abandoned it and left it to me to free-hand.

Looks great! The fireplace painted a shade darker instead of the bookcases may look nice.

Love the new lighter look. Great job. I’ll have to fess up that I have crafting ADD too. I know it and still can’t stop myself.

Under this definition, I have crafting, reading, eating, and photographic ADD! I always have too many plates spinning!

  12. mspaulis says:

I love the new pillows, too!

I wouldn’t have called the original scheme “outdated,” but I agree that it looks really fresh now. Love the bright colors!
