Easy, Naptime Vanity Makeover!

Easy, Naptime Vanity Makeover!

Its been a bit quiet around here recently. We’ve been super busy and my time has been less on DIY & blogging and more on family – its been good! But I have been itching for this project awhile now and am excited to reveal my new powder to you in bits. First up: Vanity Makeover!!!I hadn’t originally planned to even do this, but I had some leftover Metal FX Con-Tact paper from another project (stay tuned or check me, jocieopc out on Instagram for a few sneak peaks). The Con-Tact paper cost me a little over $10 on... Keep reading...

Crispy Ciabatta Parmesan Dippers

Keri | April 9, 2014

It’s April and that means I get to spend a day with some of my favorite people – that’s you!! – and share a recipe here at OPC The Better Half! If we haven’t formally met yet, I’m Keri and I blog over at Shaken Together. I love to share easy recipes, crafts, DIY tutorials, seasonal projects and more – I’d love to have you stop by! While it may feel like Spring in Florida, I know that it is still pretty cold in most of the country. With that in mind, I thought something warm and toasty (and... Keep reading...

Hanging Succulent Terrarium / Garden

Hanging Succulent Terrarium / Garden

I know, you are shocked to see me blogging about a succulent garden wall hanging…really a mason jar terrarium. I’m pretty shocked myself. Kim is our resident gardener and I prefer my plants to be of the plastic variety. Its pretty hard to kill a plastic plant, although if anyone could do it, it would be me and my girls! I gave gardening a try a few weeks ago when I was asked  to partner with Home Depot on their Do-It-Herself Workshop: Succulent Gardens Inspired by Pinterest. In addition to sharing this succulent garden... Keep reading...

DIY Chapstick with Essential Oils!

DIY Chapstick with Essential Oils!

In my house, we go through a lot of Chapstick. I mean, a lot. I’d like to blame it on the kids and their over-extending of the Chapstick into the cap, but I am just as guilty of accidentally putting them through the wash and dryer. Not to mention, I’d often end up grabbing one of Izzie’s HelloKitty cheapo chapsticks out of desperation, which just made my lips feel even more chapped. Argh. The sheer volume and expense for quality Chapstick seemed a bit ridiculous! So, I made my own DIY Chapstick and it was so so easy,... Keep reading...

Rhonna Designs Inspired Painted Chair

Who doesn’t love a painted chair? I mean, I obviously do…I’ve painted my dining room chairs multiple times and love a good excuse to make a colorful change!Well, my neighbor, who may be a hoarder, was getting rid of this children’s wooden chair a year (probably longer) ago and offered it to me. At the same time, she gave me some vintage metal chairs that I rehabbed and gave to a friend. The wooden chair had good bones and I would have loved to keep it wood toned, but there was just too much damage and staining.Anyway,... Keep reading...

Leprechaun Bark: A St Patrick’s Day Dessert!

I’m baaaaaack! It’s Keri from Shaken Together! I sure hope you don’t mind me crashing at Jocie’s place once a month. At least I bring dessert, right?! When I was brain storming for this month’s contributor post, I did a little research. I mean it is March after all. ‘Tis the month for soda bread and mutton, corned beef and cabbage, a pint of Guinness and a tea cake. I contemplated a recipe using gorgeous sharp Irish cheddar cheese and debated about making colcannon, a hearty potato and kale dish. But,... Keep reading...

Throw a Winter Birthday Party without Breaking the Bank!

Throw a Winter Birthday Party without Breaking the Bank!

Boy, is it hard to come up with toddler birthday party ideas for winter! Lucy’s birthday is at the end of January and Izzie’s at the beginning of February, and every year it gets harder to host parties. Some years my mom has hosted. Other years, I have just had a few toddlers over to the house on a weekday so it cuts down on the amount of people (no husbands or siblings). Our house is just to small for a big party. But hosting out of the home is so expensive! But this year I resolved to not have parties in the house and not... Keep reading...

DIY Birch Branch Jewelry Box

DIY Birch Branch Jewelry Box

Sometimes the fun and messy world of creative projects means needing to remove my wedding ring. In fact I once left my ring on underneath my gloves while staining some wood, but when I went to clean the brush I was no longer wearing the gloves, and the stain sorta dripped down onto my ring. Yikes! I nearly had a heart attack, but luckily it was nothing a little vinegar and a baking soda couldn’t fix up.I wanted a special place to store my rings and being that I’m all about rustic decor, I decided a birch branch jewelry box... Keep reading...

Have you heard that DecoArt came out with a new line of Americana Chalky Finish Paint?!?! I have been super excited about it and they were nice enough to send me some to try out! While the product was free, there were no strings attached, so be sure, opinions are 100% my own.Americana Chalky Finish Paint If you haven’t caught on to the newest trend, there are all sorts of fab new furniture paints that can go on a variety of surfaces, like wood, plastic, and glass without priming (like Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, which I love). Judy was our point person... Keep reading...

Chocolate Cherry Brownie Parfaits

It’s that time again, OPC readers! Keri from Shaken Together, here. Like Peppermint Brownies and Taco Bites with Salsa Ranch. Yum, right? Homemade All Purpose Cleaner with Essential Oils

It seems like every where I’ve turned over the past month I’ve been hearing about essential oils. Have you caught on to the rage? Well after a lot of research and talking to some family and friends, like Beth from Young Living from Unskinny Boppy and Erica with DoTerra, I decided to give them a try (both sell oils so feel free to buy, buy, buy). Love, Kisses & Valentine Wishes

I have never gotten too much into decorating for Valentine’s Day, largely because my girls’ birthdays are on January 24th and February 11th. I’m usually so wrapped up in party planning and birthday decorating, Valentine’s Day is a bit much. But last year, Ethan and I cut some pallets and made some cheap art for the occasion. Check out our Pallets 101 video tutorial on how to cut pallets and assemble art. When planning out my pallets, I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do, so I took to Pinterest,... Keep reading...

Simple Valentine Day Crafts from Craft Night!

It’s been a couple months but for the first time since the holiday, we had Craft Night with my bloggy BFF, Liz at Naptime Decorator. And what better to craft than simple Valentine’s Day Crafts. Well, I should clarify that….not everyone did such simple crafts, but I did.Mini Tulip Heart Wreath First up, I was inspired by two beautiful tulip wreaths from The DIY Village and Naptime Decorator. I put my own spin on it using a heart-shaped grapevine wreath and mini-tulips from Michaels. I used a coupon for the wreath and tulips... Keep reading...
